Down the Garden Path

How did you find out about blogland and what motivated you to join in?
For too long people had been saying “You should write a book”… but I didn’t have anything to say :-) Then they started suggesting “You need a website”. Finally their mantra changed to “You should start a blog”. I still didn’t have a lot to say, but I decided it would be a good way to keep in touch with my out-of-town friends.
How long have you been blogging?
I’m new to this lark! Only been going six months.
Please tell us a little of what your blog is about
My Keeping In Touch With Out Of Town Friends Blog morphed into recording-ideas-about-life-so-my-kids-know-why-we-did-what-we-did… eventually there were a few too many garden posts in my original blog and so I switched them all to this blog. It is quite boringly, just a Notebook That Never Gets Lost - my records of what’s happening in my garden so that when we get to next year I have some idea what I’m supposed to be doing!
My other blog has continued as a higgeldy-piggeldy mish-mash of *our life* (part craft, part food, part political, part organic, part learning, part disaster, part celebration, part thoughts, part books, part recycling, part justice, part dreams)
What do you enjoy most about blogging?
It stays done. When you sweep the floor, more dust falls. As we do the dinner dishes, the kids want to know what’s for dinner *tomorrow* night. As soon as the washing is put away, the washing basket is filling up again. But when I write… it doesn’t get undone or used up or muddled (OK, so sometimes, it’s muddled)… instead, each day the process continues, a little more is added to both my personal discipline and the volumes accumulating in the archives.
Where in NZ are you based?
A quarter acre section in Suburbia, Auckland
Anything else you would like to say…
Both of these blogs will take a siesta as of next August when we uproot our eight kids and travel around the world with them… Malaysia, China, Mongolia, United Kingdom, Romania, Poland… and other places we have not yet decided on. There’ll be another blog for that (of course)… and maybe even a website! The book will come later.
