Geek booteek

How did you find out about blogland and what motivated you to join in?
The animation studio Alex runs with his buddies has had a blog for a few years now (www.mukpuddy.blogspot.com) and we thought it’d be a cool way to show people our toys and how we make them.
How long have you been blogging?
The “Geekbooteek” blog has only been up a few months now, but Alex has been blogging with Mukpuddy since 2005.
Please tell us a little of what your blog is about
Basically we just wanted a place to showcase the new toys we make and some of the process we take in making them.

The best thing about blogging is definitely the networking you’re able to do with other artists and crafters all around the world.

How did you find out about blogland and what motivated you to join in?
I’ve been working as a web designer for the last 8 years or so and a few years ago started seeing this big blog explosion happen around me, I worked on a couple of blogs for clients and friends, around that time I also found a few papercrafts floating around on the internet - I was frustrated that there was (at the time) no decent blogs about papercraft, so I put two and two together and started the blog.

How did you find out about blogland and what motivated you to join in?
I found out about blogland via Flickr as many people there were doing one in the craft groups. I was motivated by immigrating over here to NZ from England and wanted my friends and family to see what I was up to.
How long have you been blogging?
I think I’ve been blogging for about a year now. Well actually, I know for a fact that I originally started on Bonfire Night last year - it took me all night to set up but then I couldn’t find it, ha!!!I’m not so computer-literate you will see!!
Please tell us a little of what your blog is about
My blog is mainly about my op-shop finds - thrifting of sorts, things I’m making or thinking about making, along with the occasional outdoor shots of beautiful New Zealand and my family.
What do you enjoy most about blogging?
I enjoy the sharing of ideas and just LOVE it when people leave a comment or say Hi.

It’s not the prettiest blog in the pack as I’m still struggling with Live Journal’s system… my photo arrangements are a bit strange, ha!

The wine wanker

How did you find out about blogland and what motivated you to join in?
When I started university in Wellington in 2003 I was very political (I majored in Political Science and Religious Studies) and began reading the some of the political blogs like David Farrar’s Kiwi Blog and Jordon Carters Just Left as well as the Public Address so I hopped on the band wagon and started my own, ultimated ill-fated, political blog Generation Y Not. It was awful and I soon got bored of it, I tried again (I cannot even remember the name of the blog) and that lasted for even less time.
While at University I picked up an interest in wine working at Arbitrageur when it first opened and had an amazing sommelier Vicky (her last name escapes me) who really hooked me into how interesting wine could be. Then in 2005 I approached Salient (the student rag at Vic) about riting a bi-weekly wine column called, guess what, The Wine Wanker. It was a bit of a piss take on the fact that I was working as a waiter in a wine bar and the image of wine as something with a high wank-factor. 95% of what I reviewed was under $15 and everything was under $20 and I really knew nothing about wine but that didn’t really seem to matter (I am still far from being an expert).
At the end of the year I approached the next years editor but he didn’t think the idea fitted with his vision for Salient and looking back I agree with him so I started blogging in January of 2006.
How long have you been blogging?
I kinda just answered that question, next please.
Please tell us a little of what your blog is about?
I bill it as ‘wine, food and the life of a twenty-something wellingtonian’ but mostly its about wine. About 95% of what I cover is New Zealand stuff with a bit of other stuff thrown in for good measure. It is more opinion rather than news based with lots of tasting notes of everything from very affordable to very, very, very expensive things which were a privilege to try. My partner and I have just had a baby so I think over the next few months and years there will be more content about being a father. It’s all really what ever is on my mind at the moment.
What do you enjoy most about blogging?
I like the interaction, that people can comment and critique other peoples opinions (as long as they are polite). It is a really useful way to share knowledge. I also like it when things I have said a very long time ago come back to bite me in the arse, at least it shows that the people who count are reading the blog.
Where in NZ are you based?
Wellington, were I live with my family and work as a Sommelier and restaurant manager.
Anything else you would like to say…
If you read the blog please leave me place some feedback once in a while - without it I cannot get better.

Chez Lee
How did you find out about blogland and what motivated you to join in?
I discovered blogging a while back, when I first moved to New Zealand in 1997 and wanted to read what other people were doing. Blogging wasn’t at all what it is today and there wasn’t much around. These days it’s absolutely amazing to read about almost any topic you can think of on the Internet and how different people are living excited and varied lives. Keeping an ‘on-line’ photo-journal of our experiences in New Zealand was something our family in the UK valued immensely; especially since the arrival of their grandchildren!
How long have you been blogging?
Since 2003
Please tell us a little of what your blog is about
‘Family Lee’ are expats from the United Kingdom living in New Zealand, for close to 10 years now. Life isn’t always easy bringing up children without the help of an extended family; there’s always the thought of ‘Is the grass greener back in the UK?’. Join us in our daily life in Wellington, we have a lot of fun!
What do you enjoy most about blogging?
Daily reflections on life inspire us to fill our days with positive activities and energy. It’s so rewarding to look back on our parenthood journey and marvel at it all.

Organic Baby
How did you find out about blogland and what motivated you to join in?
I have wanted to have my own blog ever since I was a little girl … just kidding around…but isn’t it odd how the world changes? I never really understood the blogging world until I started blogging. Already having my own web site, it just didn’t make much sense to me. My business mentor suggested I got one and he was right, I’m addicted!
How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging since November 2006
Please tell us a little of what your blog is about
My blog is an extension of www.organicbaby.co.nz . It’s where I get to add the fun stuff - great products, fabulous web stores, be an eco warrior (or worrier), add most current product warnings and recalls plus rave about anything I like really. For example, I recently did a eco fashion piece which is nothing at all to do with babies but really fun to research!
What do you enjoy most about blogging?
Blogging is current and instant! You can blog whenever or wherever you feel like it

Where two next
How did you find out about blogland and what motivated you to join in?
Heard of it through my wife who has a knitting blog. (The profile on our website is actually hers). Didn’t get blogging initially but have since been drawn to the idea. The motivation for joining in was to keep our friends and family up to date. Along with sending home videos to our parents taken during our travels it has helped us keep in touch and made them feel closer to us which is important. It also means that we don’t have to send out individual e-mails to update everybody or worse send a group e-mail which some people can take umbrage to! I also like the idea of the diary and the fact that our kids, if we have any, might decide to read it some day or better still go traveling to this great country and decide to use it as a reference point. Finally, we just wouldn’t have documented our time here if it wasn’t for the blog.
How long have you been blogging?
Started before we left for New Zealand in September 06. First post I ever did was from Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam on our way here.
Please tell us a little of what your blog is about
Our blog is about our travels generally and because we have been in NZ most of the time it is primarily about here. I like to think that we give a more “in depth” idea of what NZ is like from an outsiders point of view due to the fact that we have been here for a year and we’re not just passing through.
What do you enjoy most about blogging?
Getting a comment. As ridiculous as it sounds it makes my day, especially if I get one from someone new. Having said that I don’t leave comments on other blogs in the hope of a return comment so I guess it’s not that important!
Where in NZ are you based?
We are based in windy Wellington and have been here for nearly a year now. We love the capital.
Anything else you would like to say…
Although our time here is drawing to a close I hope the few readers we have gained along the way will stay tuned and take an interest in our life back in Ireland. I can imagine the first few months will be full of comparisons for obvious reasons.
